My Heiss Heater
« on: October 29, 2013, 01:37:49 PM »

Well I had to write to express my appreciation of our Heiss Heater.  We installed this last year and had some problems with the mechanical flap that allowed the blower motor to fill the wood chamber with air.  This summer the owner himself came out to install an electric device that opens when heat is called for and closes tight when temperature is reached.  Our house has never been more comfortable.  The heat is so even that our interior temperature gauge has never wavered from the 72 degrees we enjoy.  Our wood usage is down as well as our use of electricity.  We can't be more happy with this heater and I wanted people to know about it.  Our hats are off to the folks at Heiss Heaters in Grand Rapids.  We love their product and their service.

Looks like they are using a masonry mass to pull heat from.

I always thought water has the highest thermal retention of any material?

Seams like a cheaper alternative for someone willing to go out on a limb.

We had a Heiss 5000 Elite installed by Heiss about 4 weeks ago.  We have a 4000 square foot house with 2 furnaces and 2 water heaters.  The unit has kept our air and water warm in the midst of the horrible cold western Michigan has experienced this winter.  We're happy with ours, too.

It's nice to see people publicly acknowledge their satisfaction of their purchase of a heating unit.  Isn't it great when things work as advertised?  I don't know about you but I don't miss the huge fuel oil bill.  Continued good luck with it.     Roger

I hope after a couple heating seasons you still have the same feelings about your Heiss boilers.  Good luck, looking forward to reading your posts in the future.

I assure the last four posters that I'm a real Heiss customer in Ada, Michigan, and I'm not a best friend or family member of Mr. Heiss.  I'm also not an expert on wood boilers, and that's why I don't do a lot of posting.  When I considered whether to buy a Heiss heater, I was very interested to hear the experiences of others that had tried the Heiss design.  It can be a little bit like going out on a limb to try something new and different than most other people have.  I tried it and I want to share my positive experience in case others considering a wood boiler purchase are interested.  We are about to enter our second season with the boiler, and if it disappoints me I'll be sure to post about that.  I'm expecting another good performance, though!  Thanks.

I'm sure there was no malice intended there Mr.V, only that there are certainly manufacturer reps on here that are not honest about their position and use the site for free advertisement, we all wish you best of luck with your unit and please don't be afraid to post!

Mr. V, I'm curious as how large and new of house your heating and how it compares to what you used for heating before, did you have a gas furnace or wood furnace in your basement and why the heiss purchase over others out on the market.     As they say educate us, some of us are looking at a different wood boiler and are wanting as much information as possible about every brand on the market.

They say in their website you need storage in your basement, what type of storage do you have and how big.
