Preventing Rust Problems with anode rod?
« on: November 04, 2013, 08:42:06 PM »

Have I missed any discussions about adding an anode rod to our OWB like they use in Electric and gas domestic hot water heaters?  How many would I need to prevent rusting with 300+ gallons capacity?

How much does paint help prevent rusting and corrosion inside/outside of these steel tanks.

My Shaver 340 is leaking and i'm wondering about patching floorpan leaks versus replacing the entire floor sheet with thicker steel.

The circulation inside seems poorly thought out. The design returns and picks-up water from the very rear of stove.  There is a large plate from burn chamber that restricts water from flowing forward in the stove.

Its worked for last 4 yrs but seems now like I was losing most of efficiency due to poor circulation of water within the stove.

Lots of room for design improvements on this one.

Thoughts?

Do not like anode rods for a lot of reasons

there simply not necessary and with proper boiler treatment, this form of rust out should be impossible if the steel was of good quality to begin with

painting?  No, if it were that simple the companies would be doing it, but the chemicals need to be able to interact with the bare steel to work properly.

good luck in whatever you decide to do, keep us posted

Some companies like them others think they are a waste of time and money, I think they are an excuse for not standing behind a warranty!
