I've been doing some reading on here about return temps and such. Ive never really paid much attention to this per my stove. Now I have the H4 with 3/4" 3 wrap pex making a 50ft run from the stove to the pump in my basement. Im running the taco0011. What should a good return temp be? Why does return temps really matter? Sorry for the stupid questions but I would really like to know. Whats the best way to check temps without installed temp gauges? As most of you know I have been having ALL KINDS of issues keeping my house sync with the Thermo stat. Maybe return temps could help me better understand if I am doing something wrong. I have the aqua stat set at 185 at the moment as we have been in the teens and single digits here the past 2 weeks. Would I check this temps on the back of the stove or in the basement where the pex meets the pumps?

Good morning Dave, I typically install temp guages at all 4 ports on the heat exchanger. you could and probably should check them on both ends of the underground pipes and again on the return on the wood boiler, 20 degrees is the target.

Maybe I will go get a inferred temp gauges from harbor freight. I dont have a heat exchanger. Ill check them at at each port at the boiler itself and see what I get.
