Help on what outdoor furnace to buy
« on: January 05, 2014, 05:01:51 PM »

I'm in the market to buy a new outdoor furnace. My budget is tight but I don't want to buy junk. I've looked off n on for a while, but every time I think I've found the right stove I read something bad

are you running one now?  your post says you are in the market for a new one, didn't know if you had any experience with one at all?

Lots of good information on here.

Here is a true story that could be applied.  (arguably of course).  I work full time for a Fire/EMS service and have for 18 years.  In Iowa where it gets cold and the NW wind blows like crazy.  A few years ago the city went low bid and bought a batch of ambulances from a company in Arkansas.   When winter hit, those rigs had continuous cold weather problems, serious freezing problems with air suspension and rig heating/cooling, hardware of doors and cabinetry breaking, ect.   Needless to say, the next batch were purchased from a company back here that knows about cold weather, even though they cost more.

just something to chew on.  I'm sure there are some truck builders in the south that can build a truck that can handle cold weather,  but you know darn well that a truck builder in the North can.

I think every company has those few customers that just can't be satisfied, for the most part I think we as an industry do a good job of helping one another with problems, at least on this forum we try.

Agree with that for sure.

Jared, you posted this in the P&M section, does that mean you are looking at those the most?   Slim could probably help you here.

Jared, I am brand new to this site, so hello every one,  I purchased a portage and Maine BL 34/44, my purchase was initiated a year ago today with a phone call to Brian martin, of portage and  Maine. I live in new mexico  at a elevation of 9,500 feet,, I've lived here 10 years this May, and damn near froze to death the last "9" years. I did extensive research on the OWB's spoke to a lot of dealers.  Brian listened to my needs, and completely went out of his way to work with me. My  BL 34/44 arrived  Nov 26 of 2013 its official start date was 12/31/13. I love this unit. It heats my 2 story 4500 poorly insulated adobe house perfectly.  No propane used, and at $3.75 per gallon I sure am happy. The day before the firing, at  9 am my upstairs bedroom was 41 degrees, Jan 1st, woke to a whole house at 70,  ouutside temp was at - 5. Unfortunately the badger pump they sent me failed after 24 hours. Called Brian Martin on a Saturday,  This guy was in his office and answers his own phone. He apologized  and to my surprise told me he would send out a grunfos 26/96  on Monday 2nd day air to New Mexico. Brian.  Ruth, and  Rory have exceeded all my expectations,, never any sales pressure or trying to pass off any issues. As you can see with the badger pump. Do business with this company you won't regret it. That BL  34/44 is a real work of art, fit, finish and performance. Portage and maine ,      Brian  Martin.   I thank you and my family thanks you, Felix martinez.
