Central Boiler 5036 or HeatMaster E5000
« on: March 21, 2014, 07:57:53 PM »

I will be buying a boiler in the next month before the rebates expire and have it narrowed down to these 2.  Central Boiler CL5036 for $6600 or the Heat Master E5000 for $7400.  Any suggestions to sway me one way or the other.  I like certain features on both stoves but i can't chose which one to pull the trigger on.  Is it worth the upgrade to the E series in the HeatMaster or will i burn the same amount of wood with a classic CB?  Any tips or suggestion would be appreciated! Any issues with warranty's with these company's?   I have a 2500 sq ft home and will have it hooked into my water heater and using forced air.  Thanks!

Do you want forced air or natural draft? Do you want stainless steel or carbon steel? Do you want a round box or square and wavy? Do you want spray foam or bat insulation? Do you want an ash pan or not?

Two very different stoves. Answer those questions and you'll have your stove.

I think it's worth the money. You might consider that you can also burn coal in the Heatmaster E it has shaker grates. A lot of guys have been burning coal this year and have cut their wood usage in half. Something to think about.  Factory support is excellent with Heatmaster as CB both have  been around a long time. Good luck

One thing to keep in mind is while they have similar sized fireboxes the CB will have ash in the firebox. So on a normal day you will get more wood in the 5000. If you want to compare similar furnaces as far as efficiency goes price the reg 5000, some are selling it for $6,600

Good point yoder, the mf 5000 standard is a lot more comparable in efficiency than comparing it to the e series.

Oh Ok Scott, I just thought maybe my Government was stealing my money for another givaway, I would not be real upset if it were for you but CB, that would send me over the edge. I'll be seeing you probably tuesday evening.

I have an enclosed lean to on my Morton building,  with this said do you think i will have issues if i went with the central boiler(natural draft) compared to Heatmaster(fan) with lack air movement since it is enclosed.  Also in my mind, CB has less moving parts which means less that can go wrong and less to replace.    Has anyone had bad experiences with SS firebox's?  I had my mind made to buy a  Heatmaster a month ago but once i looked at them and notices the 20 inch by 20 inch door i thought twice about it.   Seems like a small space to be trying to fit big chunks of wood.  Should i be concerned with that?   Thanks again.. just want to be sure that my $10k i invest will be spent on the right stove.

In my opinion, heatmaster has a much better design than CB.  I don't like the ripple design on the CB.  To me that's just asking for corrosion and build up.  Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't CB use their own temperature controller that can be only be purchased through CB?  Heatmaster parts are fairly common throughout the owb industry. I can buy a replacement ranco controller on ebay for $45.  With the 409 ss and water treatment I don't see where you could go wrong with a HM.

If you can pick up bigger pieces of wood than 20 by 20 your more of a man than I'll ever be lol

Less parts to buy?  Hmm

Not really the case when comparing heatmaster and central

for example, yes there is a fan, but it's not a special made fan for Heatmaster and every piece of the electronics can be found at places like grainger.  The control system on central boiler is made by central and only available through them.

If your in a shed and having to shovel your ashes out of the central with the door open, ur Def gonna fill it with smoke if it's enclosed vs the ash pan design

in regard to stainless, I sell units with both mild and stainless, both materials can be used and both work well as long as the design is proven.

A 20x20 is big enough to fit more than I would ever want to lift (or could lift)  I'm guessing the door on my hardy is like 16x16 or so and. It's plenty big.

I'd go with a Heatmaster. Shaker grates and ash pan really set them apart.
