I agree.  It's nice to read some "new" stuff..  We had our first frost last night but I refuse to fire up the boiler yet....  Told the family to bundle up a bit more...

Seemed like a good post to ad this question to, this will be my first year on a OWB. With the way weather is in minnesota it can be cold for a few days then warm up.  Is it worth firing up for a couple day cold spell or use the back up propane/electric/fuel oil or wear sweatshirt, slippers, and throw the clean clothes out of the dryer on the bed just before turning in for the night?

How long does it take to get the water up to temp in the boiler? Say if water temp is at 50, when will it get 180, i'm sure it varies, but whats your experience?

HRC where in MN are you located I wouldnt start it up yet I'm from Pine River and have seen a few boilers going but I have the furnace turned off and the coldest it got in my house during the two frosty night's was 61 degrees. I just threw a blanket on the bed for the wife.

Got out of bed this AM and found it be 45 degrees outside and 60 degrees inside.  At least it's not going to rain today.  It 's supposed to get into the lower 60's today with sunshine.  That alone should help warm my home.  I plan on taking the portable heaters out of storage just to break the chill in house.  It isn't yet cold enough to fired up the OWB due to warmer weather expected later this week and into next week.  Plus, generally I don't fired her up until the daytime temps are consistently in the 50's, perhaps early to mid October.  But the time approaches.  Roger

I fired up my free standing burner in the house to take the chill off for now. Not ready to start the boiler. Not till next month.

Oh Heck guys, go ahead and fire her up, I fired up my 250 yesterday just to show a potential customer how clean it ran and after about 10 minutes of running, I shut it down because it is still dry and I didn't want to cook the probes, I have to drain it between shows as the trailer and 2 units are heavy, full of water would be overweight.

By the time I get mine installed it will be cold enough to fire it up.

jwood, i'm in Grand Marais, sounds like I'm in the same boat as you, it will be cold by the time mine is ready to fire up. Its been 58 in the house the last 3 mornings, with basically no sun out in that time it only gets to 61. I think mid october is when I turned on the fuel oil for good last fall.

Fired my 250 yesterday to check for leaks, shop is 70.   House 68

Well at least I'm not the only one who needs to finish the install.  I didn't even start mine yet
