e2400 blowing fuses during startup
« on: November 08, 2014, 05:39:14 AM »

as we were starting up our boiler last night for the season things were running smoothly untill all of a suden everything turned off. checke the fuse near the power switch in the back and it was blown. first time in 4 seasons so we replaced the fuse and it imidiatly blew again. any advice on why this is occuring would be helpful. i've read that the selanoid going bad can cause the fuse to blow but ours was running for about an hour with the primary selanoid open and blower on and the reaction chamber was only around 200degrees so the other selanoids had not turned on. course its saturday and central boiler isn't open to discuss the issue with. any ideas how to diagnose what is wrong? i have two more fuses but don't want to keep blowing them till i don't have anymore.

thanks,

Check the Amp Draw and find out which solenoid is sticking?

yes one of the selenoids had 0hms and when that one got pluged in the fuse blew. so i replaced it but now there is a really loud rattle fromt hat selenoid. the dealer said it usually is caused by rust on the magnet part...i sanded it but doesn't seem to help...am i sanding the wrong place? anyone else have this problem?

Put a few drops of oil on it it will take care of the noise!

Moojamboo you might try just turning the cotter pin that attaches to the "hat" too. Might be metal vibration. Or make sure it is not binding and it is mounted straight after you put the new one on.
If new solenoid burns out soon, turn off firestar controller and check for stray voltage at that solenoid with electrical spades hooked up to it using a multimeter. If there is low voltage at that solenoid with firestar powered down you may have a faulty controller issue. Hopefully it is just a bad solenoid.

I had good luck spraying my solenoids with Fluid Film last year.  I had one that was buzzing really loud.  Gave it a good spray, worked the mechanism up and down several times and it quieted right down.  Hasn't been a problem since.  Sprayed them again tonight just for precaution.
