i just recently finished our basement and i am looking for heating ideas. We heat our house with a central boiler. The upstairs is plenty warm but the basement is a little chilly. I put 2 registers in the ceiling down there but it is just not enough to keep it as warm as we would like. I am looking into hydronic wall heaters and was wondering if anyone has experience with them? i was thinking about putting 1 or 2 of these in the basement and run them off a seperate thermostat. Any help would be appreciated.

I like old cast Iron rads for that application but Biasi makes some truly nice wall mounted units!

Gotta agree with Slim on this one, if you have an opportunity to install some old cast rads do it and don't look back, don't even think of anything else,your basement will never be chilly again,end of story...

i know this is a contreversial subject,but i installed a 300 gallon tank in the
basement kind of as a buffer tank
i insulated mine quite well then i saw my furnace more then kept it up to temp (180+)
so i stripped of a bit on the sides
my basement is toasty and i can open the boiler up a bit
fire twice a day
  just a thought

Just came acroos a 100k BTU hanging modine heater. I could also run this off a seperate thermostat. Any thoughts?

Just keep in mind, the Modine consumes power, it's noisy and hard to dry your clothes on, the Cast Iron rad uses 0 extra power, it's very quite and dries insulated pants or boots very nicely!

I will be heating an area about 900 sq.ft will 100,000 btu be big enough to accomplish that?

Unless you insulated with chicken wire! 30,000 should be plenty!

Slim,  I read your posts for two reasons, one is to educate myself, the other is just to make my day better.  I can only hope one day I am in the northeastern part of our country and I will buy you a drink ( or two )..vpm...

We are heating almost 3000 square feet with a 120,000BTU HX.

Lol at Slim!! The basement is very well insulated and I figured 100k btu would be plenty. There is only a $75 difference between the 50k and 100k. Figured I might as well go with the bigger one.
