All electric house. Thoughts?
« on: January 05, 2015, 03:00:41 PM »

Hello all. First post long time lurker. I have finally installed an outdoor wood stove in my home. It's fantastic. Being warm is great lol. Anyway. Does anyone else have an all electric house with forced air heat? If so, what kind of electric bills did you see after the boiler was up and running? I have a central boiler classic 6048.

Thanks

Mine actually dropped a bit, but I also shut the breaker off for the electric hot water heater. Your circulator pump should be around 60-100 watts. And depending how much your house calls for heat for your blower to run. Regardless you will be happy with your choice, Welcome!

From what I hear is those type of electric bills might be common for everyone soon. I though I had seen on tv where a guy from NH electric bill doubled. Coming soon to a mailbox near you!

Hi Brent,

Like you, I was/am all electric and I too have noticed a significant increase in my YOY electric costs.  The December bill for 2013, delivered to my door cost me 10.6 cents/Kwh.  The same bill for this December (I installed my stove in October) cost me 15.5 cents/Kwh.....~50% increase.  Last year I used ~3400Kwh.  This year, I used ~1200.

I won't miss my $700.00 electric bill to keep my house 67 degrees this year.

Don't forget our glorious delivery charge (mine, over $100) and the debt retirement charge.  The debt retirement charge
gets removed (yay!), but then our 10% reduction also gets removed...

I haven't added things up for a few months, maybe its more now, I just took my KWH and divided them into the total cost (all that stuff you mentioned) and I came up with 22. something cents per KWH but I am sure it is going up again shortly

Mr. BrentG, I'm all electric without even a heat pump. 100% resistance electric. 3,000 sft. My January bill the first year in my house was $720.  That was with 67° during the day and 63° at night. With my stove in at $150 a month all winter and I'm at 74° all day and 72° at night. My kids come home and put on shorts and t-shirts!

A wood boiler in my opinion makes you tolerate the winter a little better. If you can in some place and really get warm. It makes you feel better.

I am only in my second season with my 6048 and I love it. Two years ago my highest electric bill was $500+ and last year my highest bill was $100 even. I love having HOT water and now I don't worry about changing the thermostat, always set at 74. Used to go between 68 and 72.

Coolidge - My electric bill just went up $50.00/Month.  The Public Utility Commission (PUC) okay'd the request from the electric company to raise it and I'm now paying over $130.00/month for electricity.  All I have running on electric is; a few energy saver lights, 1 hour of TV time in the evening, 2 circs running 24/7 for the OWB, power tools for a renovation project (but I ran those much this summer than this winter and my bill was much lower), my clothes washer once a week (drier is gas as is the oven) and 1/2 hour on the treadmill before going to work.  I cannot imagine someone in NH heating their home strictly with electricity.  The monthly cost would be enormous.  Roger

I think they said businesses in Maine we're going to get hit with 30 percent hike.

Roger, did you ever figure the percent of your hike?
