Black chimney top
« on: January 10, 2015, 08:59:18 PM »

This is my first year and my bl 2840 chimney top is very black coming down 3 plus inches to the point that the sticker that is on the pipe is really black. Is this normal? I didn't expect to see it so black, I'll get a picture tomorrow and will try and post.

Ditto.  There seems to be more of a downdraft happening on mine than I ever thought. Mine is ~ 5 to 6" down on the pipe. I have 2 three foot sections hooked together. Nonetheless, black on the end but I think would be normal appearance for a pipe exposed to smoke.

Good to know, I only have one pipe on my unit but plan to add another section for next year to get the smoke up higher.

You are right about that. My other owb did the same thing with black down a few inches of the pipe. I had two pipe lengths with that one & the same with this one.

The summer rains gets the pipes fairly clean again.

For what it's worth, same with my BL2840.  No occasional chimney fires like my buddies boiler.
