Power outage
« on: January 31, 2015, 07:30:57 PM »

I had my first power outage with the boiler. I wasn't ready. My generator is new, so I had no oil in it. I didn't have my wiring done in my panel. It took me a hour to get ready. And ran the generator for a hour.

When the stove was power up, the temp was at 197. Pump drop the water down to 172 in a couple minutes.

I will be ready next time.

First thing I do when we get a notification of bad weather is to check out and start the generac.

Learned the same lesson the other day.  Didnt have all the connections set to run the boiler, ran to the store, put together the needed wiring and as I went out to start the generator....Lights on and power restored.   Amazing how we get our poop in group after a near miss.

We built a new house and had a generac put in that automatically kicks on when there's a power outage.  I only know this because we simulated a power outage to test it.  I've been wishing the power would go out but, per the law of murphy, it hasn't yet.

I wished for storm too when I installed a generator four years ago.  It came generator went on, life was good, then it failed.  Power was out four days. Generator is good now but I don't wish for power outages anymore.

If the powers out and the damper closes what is the likely hood the furnace would boil over?

My stove was up to 197. It shuts of at 190. That is seven degrees in a hour in cold weather. In warmer weather maybe it would be more.
