what do you look for in a water to air Heat Exchanger?
« on: November 24, 2015, 04:03:57 PM »

I'm behind the ball with my project and i need to get a heat exchanger picked out asap.  Looking around there aren't a lot of places that sell them and when they do it doesn't give much info on them or explain why theirs are better than any other one.  For one, we have an Amazon Prime account and they sell them on there for a decent price, and we would get it in two days.  Are those good enough for any kind of forced air system?

one i'm looking at is. http://www.amazon.com/18x18-Water-Exchanger-Outdoor-Furnace/dp/B00B1GRIS4

let me know what you think.  I've looked around on here and haven't been able to find anyone who's talked about this.

A lot of the brands are made in China anymore so not a lot of choice there, some do come with premade channels though, fasten the channels in place then slide in the exchanger.

I've now bought two from Anderson's Outdoor Furnace Supply.  They sell USA made water to air heat exchangers with 3 rows of tubes instead of 2 like most exchangers.  They're about $200 or less depending on the size you need and I think shipping is free one those.  He also sells on Ebay at freeheat4u.  I have no complaints.  My dad bought his from Anderson's as well.  I highly recommend.  The item descriptions will tell you everything you need to know about the water to air heat exchangers they sell, including actual dimensions so you can properly size it for your plenum.

I can also vouch for he Anderson heat exchanger.  I bought a 16 x 18 rated around 130,000 BTU/Hr.  I can't say if I get this output or not, but, for the last 6 winters, it has heated our mid sized old farmhouse in central Ontario without any problem. The last couple winters were pretty brutal too.

Thanks for the recommendations!!  I went with a 18x18 (recommended size from the guy doing the HVAC work) from Freeheat4u.com.  This forum has saved my butt a few times through this project.
