Furnace put to the test, passes with flying colours
« on: February 13, 2016, 04:13:30 PM »

The arctic circle has arrived. Temperature here this morning, minus 23 degrees Fahrenheit, wind chill of minus 57 degrees Fahrenheit!!!! I measured approximately 2 wheelbarrow loads of dead but not seasoned elm into the furnace, roughly 18-20 inches in length per piece, mostly smaller diameter pieces that I was concerned wouldn't last the night.I measured the flue temperature with an infrared thermometer, showed a respectable 480-520 degrees Fahrenheit.I marked the time,7:30 p.m,checked at 7:30 am this morning, still going strong. I will try to get measurements this week of the two houses it is heating,as well as a picture of the furnace to show its size as requested

Our programmable thermostat is set to 74, then down to 68 while we are in bed, then comes back on to 74@5:30 just before we get up. My Father's house, much larger,is probably around 82 or better, down to maybe 75 at night,he likes it much warmer than we do
