I want to start heating my upstairs. So my question is what pump will push the water up 40 feet?

Heat raises. In my case, I have a heat pump for upstairs and one for downstairs each equipped with radiators feed by the OWB, the one fan  upstairs is hardly ever running due to heat raising from the fan on at the bottom.

It doesn't take much of a pump on 40' pipe if there is no air in the system. getting the air out of the system is the problem. Make a way to bleed air out of the system or push it out with house pressure. 3/4" line is a lot easier to bleed than 1" and on short loops and you will still get decent flow. Grunfos 15-58 or equivalent should do it.

I would consider pressurizing it. 40' high will be hard to keep the air out otherwise.
