Is there any 'real' difference?
« on: March 19, 2016, 06:22:09 AM »

Logstor,  Flex pex,  Rehau insulpex  or  Thermopex.

Do they not all preform about the same?  Less than 2 degrees or less loss over 100 feet.
Is one more flexible and easier to work with than the other?

Is it not just a question of price and availability?

I know that the logstor is super rugged and works awesome. I have no regrets about the higher cost.

Logstor is also larger inside diameter for better flow.

Logstor is clearly a good product, but more expensive. At 3 gpm over 100 feet it loses 1.5 degrees from a 180 degree set point. (From their spec sheet)

Thermopex claims less than 1 degree loss over 100 feet but doesn't state a set point.

Rehau insulpex ask you to contact the supplier.

Logstor appears to be the preferred choice but is there a real difference?

The increased size would bring more water to the house and back to the boiler but wouldn't the heat exchanger cause a restriction slowing the process?

Insulpex is available in the same size and I think you can get Thermopex with 1-1/4" pex

Other than size of pex, is there really any advantage of Logstor over the others?

The answer you're fishing for is "no."

You can get more than one of those products in the same size (or slightly larger still) than Logstor.
They're all insulated well enough to have negligible heat loss.
They'll all protect from water intrusion well.

So what's the difference?  Price and availability.  I got Logstor because Slimjim was passing through and sold me some, saving me shipping charges.

Pretty sure Logstor is the ones others compare themselves to.

Google Logstor, I’ve never been able to find a complaint of a failure due to manufacturing defects.

Thanks for the help.

All these products seem to get good reviews.

Rehau and Thermopex are available to me. Will have to source Logstor.

I only want to do it once.

My tubing is 1" Rehau with 5 wrap microfoil insulation. I have a 95' run to the house which drops 1 degree with set point at 180. My run to the shed is 175' to the heat exchanger and drops 1.5 degrees taken with a check-it digital HVAC temp tester. My point is that there is multiple brands of insulated tubing out there which are good. The price for my pipe right now is $3.69/ft and I believe Logstor goes for $8 to $10 per foot or more.

The biggest issue is getting the correct size for your needs. I should have put in 1 1/4" but was told 1" is all I needed. I replaced the piping inside my buildings with 1 1/4" and with help from Slimjim on the piping configuration have the piping working well now.

Good luck!

You are absolutely right you don't want to do it more than once. I did it twice , wasn't much fun either time. I am happy with the logstor ,but can't say I wouldn't be happy with the others. :)

HUH? I take it you meant $23/foot compared to our $10/foot?

Why the huge disparity?

2 years ago I paid 12.50 for logstor here in Ontario but the dealer said a price increase was coming and now with the low Canadian dollar it may be a lot more
