Sometimes my son(he's almost 11) sits on my lap and reads some of the posts from the different folks on the few forums that I am a member of. Thankfully, he is staying over night with one of his friends tonight.
 I'm glad that I don't have to try and explain to him why adults feel the need to communicate with one another in a manner as you've chosen.
 If you feel Scott is in error or that his comments are out of line, please, in the future communicate your concerns with a moderator, or even shoot Scott a pm and voice your concerns to him personally.
 I can see no legitimate excuse for unnecessary name calling just because one person's opinion is different than another's.

as you know marty i help mod at "the other" site and that is enough for me. i did mod  here at one time (before the place was sold) this is why all sites need a mod or two..some one who frequents the site often and can for the most part "let things run" but on occoasion a member or two may need to be reined in a bit and reminded that maybe they are getting off topic or a little rude and perhaps if they are upset or can't agree to disagree they should maybe go to private chat and sort things out.

the forums are for sharing info and yes, they are for disagreeing  on some things as well, but disagreement can be civil and should be, in a public forum. i have been a member here almost since its birth and it has been a great place for learning and sharing an abundance of info on the  operation and trouble shooting of OWB's. there are dealers here who scared me when they first showed up and i had fears of dealer pitting against dealer and owners of those brands taking sides and such...i was pleasantly surprised to see this did not happen and to this day i don't believe any dealers have bickered (in the open forum at least)  now i would hate to see any name calling or badgering of any of the members here and i for one think if a couple of "non power hungry" mods were appointed they could make sure that topics were discussed in a plite manner (even if dissagreements arise, as long as they stay civil i would consider that good information could come from those discusions)  the site at owbinfo is modded

I have never used anything in my boiler. I can scrape off most of the stuff.I never did see if I could use lime or not. Anyone got an answer? I was scraping down the boiler the other day wondering how much eff. Im loosing.

Is yours coated in shiny black creosote that flakes and drops into the fire?  I don't know how you can get that stuff off.

Seems to me that creosote could be considered a protector of the firebox metal. Loss of efficiency maybe, at the expense of protection perhaps. Ideas?

Creosote is corrosive in itself, its not a protector

I have a sunbeam coal furnace in my shop that was built in 1890, it has been used by my grandpa every winter since about 1951, before that it was being used every year in an huge home.  The fire we keep in it is always so hot that creosote never forms, it simply can't. 

After 120 years, I think it will go that many more, so the fire/heat doesn't appear to be to corrosive to me.

Besides, coal stoves are cast iron, as are many older stoves. The iron we have in our wood furnaces are not. Apples and oranges. Different color. Color me gone. You win and have run off another.

I have no idea what your even mad about, I wasn't preaching from a pew, simply talking, we burn wood in it all the time, and yes It is cast, but I was just saying I think creosote is something we don't want

Today alone I've spent over 2 hours on the phone with forum members just talking about there installs and trying to help someone...   I love it here, but I think I'm done, nothing bothers me more than stuff like this

I only read the last few replies to this and not sure what made him go on that rant.

All I know is every large OWB MFG says creosote causes corrosion and will void the warranty if you don't keep it as clean as reasonable possible. (Meaning running at proper temperature and scraping off excessive buildup if burning wood that is too wet, etc)

Marty I agree.....if this was planetsand (I am a mod on there) he would be banned for couple days and that is a payed site......My son or yours do not need to here or read that....I respect everyone just like, i like to be respected.....I agree with you. 100% sorry scott you have to be talked to that way.....
