Hey guys, I just gt my new Heatmor 400 up and running this year
All around its a great stove so far...but I am having one big issue
That I'm hoping you guys can help with : my temps are factory set
At 165-180. But....according to the temp gauge it is turning on at 155ish a
And off at 170ish.  I switched out aquatstats to see if that was the issue and
Both aqastats get close to the same readings...just very off. The Aquastat and the
Temp gauge are just not near close in temps. I also took the sensor out and coated
It in that gray junk to get better conductivity and that didn't seem to help either.
Sooooooo my correct differential is set to 5° and the boiler is coming on at around 158-163
And off at about 174. Even though it's set at 180 with a 5° differential..... Hope this makes some
Sort of sense.....dealer didn't offer much help, he told me the mechanical Aquastat and temp gauges
Are always off a bit.. He told me to call back if I couldn't figure it out but I figured I'd take it to this board
First as you guys all have lots of experience and maybe someone out there has had this happen

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Again I'm certainly not an expert on the Heatmor product but if those fixes did not work for you then perhaps the water in your tank is not flowing fast enough to mix well, in other words the water at your aqua stat may be at the set point but the water you are pulling off is lower than the aqua stat, not mixing well and is therefor cooler. Could this possibly be happening in your case? Are you running just one loop or two? If only one then perhaps try a recirc loop on the other side.

Slim...I'm running two lines...for house and shop.
One B&G NRF 22 for the shop and a B&G NRF 36 for the house loop.
The NRF 36 is on speed 2... My delta reading on my line temp gauges is good.
When everything in house is calling for hear my delta is 10°

Did you try a different temp gauge? Are you sure it is all the way in the well? You could try the heat transfer paste on the temp gauge to see if that makes a difference.

The honeywell aquastat in my boiler is off by 10 degrees. I had to set it to 170 for 180 degree water. If the replacement was from the same batch. it might be off by the same amount.

You could take both the aquastat and temp gauge out and put in a pot of hot water. (sensor part only) Run the temp up and down with a cooking stove and compare when the switch clicks.

Thanks RSI I might have to try that...I have taken the temp gauge
And Aquastat out and applied that sensor compound..
It didn't seem to make.much of a difference

Aren't those well gauges adjustable? Might be the guage needs adjusting?    I know mine were way off when installed.

i have a few strap on line temp gauges im going to grab from work and see if i cant get an accurate reading of the supply and return water.....that should help me narrow it down. My main concern is that i dont want my boiler running at low temps...for one there is a big difference in BTUS in 160 degree water and 180 degree water. Second, I dot like running at low temps because of carbonic acid which leads to to corrosion. Ive always had good luck running b/w constant temps
of 170-180.

well guys, just wanted to follow up.....

I have messed around for the past two days trying various things to get this temp situation straightened out.....nothing seems to work.....i took the temp gauge probe and aqaustat probe out and coated them with the conductive goop....when i leave the rear access panel door open, the temp gauge reads 180 when the aquastat shuts the stove down at 180.....BUT, if i close everything up, when the aquastat shuts the stove down at 180, the temp gauge on the front only reads 170ish and my line temps gauges confirm this.
Could it be that when the rear access panel is close up it is getting to hott and therefor shutting the aquastat down early, giving it a "false reading"
hen any helpo would be greatly asppreciated....im running a heatmor 400 dcss. The dealer told me that mechanical stats are always a bit "off". Ive been burning with boilers for a long time and never had one be this off....i jusdont want my boiler running cold...i want constant temps b/w 165-180. i tried switching out aquastat with another honeywell and raising set point to 190 to see if that would offset and get me closer to an actual 180 shut off temp...it got me to about 174....and i dont really want to set it any higher than that without knowing it will stay constant.

Sorry for the garbled message...hope it makes some sense....any advice would b appreciated.

I also ordered a ranco aquastat (found it on amazon for $40) i might hook that up and see if that gets me anywhere

Having a digital temp display will be nice....for $40 its worth a shot

I spoke with him several times while working on the problem unit here in Maine, I think you will like him and he knows his boiler very well.
